Last week I went to check out Bunny Goode's new art studio. "BIG Idea Studio". It is a fantastic set up, large space and good lighting. Her studio is at the Monmouth County Airport and while you are taking a class you have a wonderful view of airplanes as they are landing or taking off. I wish her the best of luck in her new enterprise . If you have any questions for Bunny her web-page is on my favorites list .
The doll club that I am a member, "Garden State Doll Artisans" meets once a month in the Public Library in Neptune N.J. We decided that we would pick a children book and make a soft sculpture illustration that the library could put on display in November . I picked Cornella Funke's book "Dragon Rider" , since I enjoy the idea of dragons flying around . So here is my interpretation of the book cover.
Last Friday I had a very lovely visit from Mo'a Romig-Boyles. She is a wonderful accomplished painter, sculpture, fiber artist and much more. At this time she is enjoying photography, if interested you can visit her blog and take a look at her work. I have her on my fav.list. She very generously gave me this beautiful handmade doll. We talked about our love of grandchildren, gardening and art. It was a very enjoyable afternoon. The onlydownside to the visit was I forgot to take pictures, how silly was that!!
If you look closely you will see the weeds,oh yes, they are getting ahead of me by the minute. Don't know what has changed , I used to be on top of the weeding , the pruning , the dividing off the Day Lilly's , what has happened?? Could it be that I am not as young as I think? Oh well, we do the best that we can. So here is the garden, weeds and all on a very perfect summer day, with our daugther Rebecca and her two children Kayla and Ben , my husband Michael and Lucy the dog.
Growing up in Iceland with its magical landscapes, the stories and believes of the Huldufolk, the "Hidden Folk" trolls and elves spark my dreams and filters into my work. Also the enjoyment that I have from my garden finds its way into some of my art. After all the work and heartfelt joy that goes in too each project, I am always surprised with what the final handmade pieces looks like, fells like and what it says to me. My work has been featured in the magazine "Art Doll Quarterly" spring 2007,Autumn 2007, and Winter 2008 issues. Was honored to participate in the Wayne Art Center "Art Doll Show" Philadelphia PA.
